Procedures For Conducting A Trauma-Informed Client Intake

Traumatic events often lead to feelings of shame due to the powerlessness that accompanies them. Shame leads to secrecy, which further reinforces the shame. By avoiding talking about trauma, negative coping behaviors have the space to grow. These negative behaviors often persist until the roots are uncovered and addressed.

Assessing clients' experience with trauma gives both you and your client the opportunity to collectively think through the role trauma has played in creating barriers to personal and professional success, and ultimately improve their success in the workforce.
